JoAnne Skelly: University of Nevada Extension Educator Profile

Carson City residents are being advised to inspect bluebird nesting boxes immediately, according to JoAnne Skelly, Associate Professor & Extension Educator Emerita at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. Skelly, who has observed bluebird populations in the area for over a decade, expressed concern about potentially disturbing nesting birds.

Skelly’s expertise encompasses firescaping, integrated pest management, and landscape design, but her perform also extends to wildlife habitat, and conservation. She joined the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in 1992, focusing on programs driven by community needs to improve environmental well-being.

As Extension Educator for Carson City and Storey County, Skelly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ornamental Horticulture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and a Master of Science degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Nevada, Reno. Her areas of specialization also include volunteer management and marketing for non-profit organizations.
