The Latvian Road Transport Administration (ATD) has prepared an agenda for a meeting of the Public Transport Council (STP) scheduled for Monday, according to a notice published Friday morning.
The announcement comes after the ATD reported in mid-February that 41.78 million passengers used subsidized regional public transport in 2025. The ATD also indicated plans to finalize a commercial route strategy by the end of February. These developments occur as Latvia continues to assess the financial needs of its regional public transport system, with a decision on additional funding expected in the final quarter of the year.
Established in early 2014, the Public Transport Council comprises ten members representing the Ministry of Transport, the ATD, and Latvia’s planning regions. Currently, Annija Novikova of the Ministry of Transport serves as the council’s chair. Other members include representatives from Zemgale, Vidzeme, Kurzeme, Latgale, and Riga planning regions, as well as officials from the Ministries of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, and Finance. The council’s composition has been subject to revisions in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
In October 2025, the ATD announced the implementation of a requirement for registration in an Electronic Queue Reservation System for border crossings with Russia and Belarus. In March 2022, the ATD announced free regional public transport for refugees from Ukraine.
