Scarpetta on Prime Video: Release Date, Plot & Cast Details

The highly anticipated crime thriller series, Scarpetta, starring Nicole Kidman, will debut on Amazon Prime Video on March 11, 2026, with all eight episodes of its first season available for streaming simultaneously, according to a recent announcement from Prime Video.

Based on the bestselling novels by Patricia Cornwell, the series marks the first full-length adaptation of the iconic Dr. Kay Scarpetta character. The novels, spanning 29 titles, have collectively sold over 120 million copies worldwide. The television adaptation draws inspiration from Dr. Marcella Farinelli Fierro, a former Virginia Chief Medical Examiner.

Kidman portrays Dr. Scarpetta, a forensic pathologist who returns to her role as chief medical examiner, confronting both a new series of murders and a case from her past. The series will unfold across two timelines, showcasing Scarpetta’s early career in the late 1990s alongside the present-day investigation, as detailed in the recently released trailer.

Joining Kidman is a prominent cast including Jamie Lee Curtis as Dorothy Farinelli, Scarpetta’s sister; Bobby Cannavale as detective Pete Marino; Simon Baker as FBI profiler Benton Wesley; and Ariana DeBose as Lucy, Scarpetta’s niece. Rosy McEwen will portray a younger version of Kay Scarpetta.

The series is being developed for television by Liz Sarnoff, who also co-wrote the script alongside Cornwell. Production is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Blumhouse Television, and Comet Pictures. Kidman and Curtis are serving as executive producers, and David Gordon Green has directed several episodes.

Scarpetta will be available to stream in more than 240 countries and territories as part of Prime Video’s global originals slate, accessible to all active Prime subscribers without additional fees.
