Capcom is currently targeting a 2029 release for the next mainline installment in the Resident Evil franchise, tentatively referred to as Resident Evil 10, according to a report from prominent industry insider Dusk Golem. The potential 2029 launch would represent a shorter development cycle than the five years between Resident Evil Village and the upcoming Resident Evil 9: Requiem.
Golem, known for accurate leaks regarding previous Resident Evil titles, indicated on social media that the project underwent a reboot during development. “RE10 (though likely won’t be called that) is a bit shorter than usual,” Golem wrote, adding that the release date is “aiming for a 2029 release date, but could be delayed to 2030, 2031 at worst.”
The insider also suggested that downloadable content for Resident Evil 9: Requiem is further along in development, potentially facilitating a smoother transition to the next major title. Capcom has not officially commented on the development timeline for Resident Evil 10.
The potential 2029 release window could coincide with the launch of next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft documents from several years ago indicated a potential 2028 release for the successors to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, though component shortages and other factors could push those plans into the 2030s. A 2029 release would position Resident Evil 10 as either a launch title or an early flagship game for the new hardware.
Prior to the release of Resident Evil 10, Capcom is reportedly focusing on remakes of Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica. According to Dusk Golem, these remakes will precede Resident Evil 10, potentially leading to a consistent stream of Resident Evil releases in the coming years. A remake of the original Resident Evil is also planned, slated to launch after the completion of the Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica remakes.
Resident Evil 9: Requiem is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming weeks. The game is intended to conclude the storyline of Leon S. Kennedy and bring closure to the legacy of the Umbrella Corporation, setting the stage for a potential reboot of the franchise with Resident Evil 10.
