Forlì Doctor Dies in A14 Highway Crash | Italy News

A 65-year-classic physician, Eros Zanotti, died Thursday evening in a multi-vehicle collision on the A14 motorway near Cesena, Italy. Dr. Zanotti was returning from a visit with family in Romagna when the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 PM between the Cesena Nord and Forlì exits, in the direction of Bologna.

The crash involved two cars and an articulated lorry, resulting in Dr. Zanotti’s vehicle overturning. Firefighters from Cesena were required to extract his body from the wreckage, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports from Il Resto del Carlino and Giornale di Brescia.

Two women sustained minor injuries in the collision and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The circumstances leading to the crash are currently under investigation.

Dr. Zanotti, originally from Argenta, had strong ties to Forlì, where he completed his classical studies. He had spent over thirty years as a medical director within the Asst of the Spedali Civili of Brescia, holding positions in General Medicine, Pneumology, Geriatrics, and Respiratory Physiopathology. He specialized in Geriatrics, Pneumology and Internal Medicine.

Colleagues at the Montichiari hospital remember Dr. Zanotti as a dedicated and respected physician who built a significant part of his professional career there. Even after retiring in 2023, he continued to practice medicine by making house calls to his patients, as reported by Quibrescia.it.

Beyond his work at the hospital, Dr. Zanotti had a varied career, including a period as a ship’s doctor, serving as the medical director for several navigation companies. He was also an avid sportsman, playing soccer as a goalkeeper for the Club Forza Forlì and having previously played in the youth system of Forlì. He also enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, and flying.

Dr. Zanotti resided in the Barcuzzi hamlet of Lonato del Garda with his wife and daughter, where he was known as a pillar of the local community. No further details regarding the ongoing investigation have been released at this time.
