Las Vegas singer Katy Monroe brought a blend of classic Hollywood glamour and contemporary sophistication to Maxan Jazz on February 2, drawing a crowd of prominent figures from the city’s entertainment scene, according to reports and photos from the event.
Monroe’s performance, titled “Glamour, Reimagined,” channeled the aesthetic of icons like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, but avoided simple nostalgia, offering instead a “polished, playful, and emotionally present” experience, according to BroadwayWorld.com.
The audience included artist Carol Yvonne Dunkeson, entertainer and socialite Shirley “Shirl the Whirl” Cina, news anchor and actor Larry Carroll, radio personality and German American Social Club of Nevada President Sylvia Brunn, entertainer Kelly Clinton Holmes, entertainer Ron DeCar, singer Jeff Huston, showgirl Teri Thorndike, and Clint Holmes, a celebrated Las Vegas performer who joined Monroe onstage for a number.
Musically, Monroe was supported by Demetrios Pappas on keyboard and musical direction – Pappas is known for his work with Smokey Robinson – Brahm Sheray on bass, and YL Douglas on drums, the latter recognized as Barry Manilow’s longtime drummer. Pappas’s direction was described as creating a “taut” pacing and allowing Monroe to move “between intimacy and lift-off with cinematic ease.”
Special guest Lisa Gay, fresh off a sold-out run of her Phyllis Hyman performance at Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar in New York City, likewise appeared during the evening, adding “a rush of soul and sophistication” to the performance. Saxophonist Eric Tewalt also made a guest appearance, contributing to a “late-night triumph” sense to the demonstrate’s finale.
Monroe is scheduled to perform “Glamour, Reimagined” at Maxan Jazz on February 2, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Reservations can be made by calling (702) 485-3926 or visiting the Maxan Jazz website.
