Savannah Guthrie’s Mother: Missing Person Case Intensifies in Arizona

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

A road near the Tucson, Arizona, home of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was sealed off overnight as law enforcement continued its investigation into her disappearance. A significant law enforcement presence, including sheriff’s and FBI vehicles, converged on the area, with forensics teams participating in the operation. Authorities also towed a Range Rover SUV from the parking lot of a nearby Culver’s restaurant, approximately two miles from Guthrie’s residence.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the activity was connected to the Guthrie case but deferred further details to the FBI, which has requested limited public disclosure. No arrests have been made, and no new information was immediately available, according to officials.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1. Investigators discovered blood on the front porch of her Tucson-area home, raising immediate concerns for her safety. Authorities have been investigating purported ransom notes sent to news outlets, though two deadlines for payment have passed without resolution.

The FBI has received over 13,000 tips since the investigation began, while the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has fielded at least 18,000 calls related to the case. The sheer volume of leads underscores the widespread public interest and concern surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance.

On Tuesday, investigators released surveillance footage depicting an armed, masked individual at Guthrie’s doorstep on the night she was last seen. The video, totaling less than a minute, represents the first visual evidence of a potential suspect and is being scrutinized for clues.

Authorities have expressed concern for Guthrie’s health, noting she requires daily medication. Dispatcher audio broadcast on broadcastify.com indicates she has a pacemaker and a history of high blood pressure and heart issues.

Investigators are currently analyzing DNA and other evidence submitted to laboratories, and continue to review surveillance video and sort through the influx of tips. A former FBI agent, speaking with Katie Couric, has suggested the released security footage appears “staged,” though this assessment has not been officially confirmed by law enforcement.
