Law enforcement sealed off a residential street near the Tucson, Arizona, home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today reveal host Savannah Guthrie, late Friday night as the investigation into her disappearance entered its tenth day.
A significant presence of Pima County Sheriff’s Department and FBI vehicles, including forensics units, moved through the roadblock established on East Orange Grove Road near North First Avenue, approximately 3.2 kilometers from Guthrie’s residence, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department. Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the activity, stating only that We see related to the ongoing investigation.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1. Investigators discovered blood on the front porch of her home, leading them to believe she was taken against her will. Purported ransom notes were sent to news outlets, but two payment deadlines have passed without incident, according to reporting by 1News.
Authorities have repeatedly expressed concern for Nancy Guthrie’s health, noting she requires daily medication. Dispatcher audio obtained by broadcastify.com indicates she has a pacemaker and a history of high blood pressure and heart issues. The FBI has collected over 13,000 tips since the investigation began, while the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has received at least 18,000 calls.
On Tuesday, the FBI released surveillance footage depicting an armed, masked individual at Guthrie’s home on the night of her abduction. The videos, totaling less than a minute, provided the first visual evidence of a potential suspect. The individual appeared to attempt to obstruct the security camera with foliage, according to reports.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced on February 12 that “several items of evidence” had been recovered, including gloves, and are currently undergoing analysis. The department is too utilizing the Ring Neighbors app to solicit video footage from residents between January 1 and February 2, requesting any recordings of vehicles, pedestrian traffic, or unusual activity.
Investigators are also examining a video circulating online that shows a man with a backpack approximately 5 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home shortly before her disappearance, sources told ABC News. It remains unclear if the backpack in that video is the same one seen in the doorbell camera footage from Guthrie’s property.
