Crystal Dynamics announced today that both Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered and a new 2D action platformer, Legacy of Kain: Ascendance, will release on March 31, 2026. The releases mark a significant return for the long-dormant franchise, with Ascendance representing a departure in gameplay style.
Developed by Bit Bot Media, Legacy of Kain: Ascendance features a pixel-art aesthetic and animated cutscenes. The game will allow players to control three distinct characters: Kain, utilizing his vampiric abilities; Raziel, initially as a Sarafan knight before his transformation; and the vampire Elaleth, described as having a more aggressive playstyle. The gameplay focuses on vertical movement, fluid combat, and environmental puzzles integrated with combat encounters.
The announcement comes following a showcase of the titles, as reported by multiple gaming news outlets. Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is a revitalized version of the 2004 PlayStation 2 action game, and will be available alongside Ascendance. Both titles will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A bundle containing both games will also be offered.
According to store listings, the game will feature an original soundtrack by Celldweller and include returning voice actors such as Michael Bell, Simon Templeman, Richard Doyle, and Anna Gunn.
