A cinema patron in Germany was reportedly told she could not bring her own bottle of still mineral water into the theater, but would have to purchase a drink inside, according to a recent online account.
The incident, detailed in a brief online post, involved a woman carrying a 0.3-liter glass bottle of still mineral water. A cinema employee allegedly informed her that outside beverages were prohibited and that she would require to buy a drink at the concession stand.
The incident comes as consumers increasingly consider alternatives to plastic bottles for beverages. A recent comparison of mineral water in glass bottles, published in February 2026, highlighted the preference for glass due to its lack of taste transfer and absence of potentially harmful substances. The report, by comparison website vergleich.org, noted Voss Water Still as a standout product.
Demand for mineral water in glass bottles is growing, according to industry observers. Billiger.de, a German price comparison website, currently lists 889 mineral water products from 36 shops, with 42 of those packaged in glass. The site also indicates a consumer preference for both still and carbonated varieties, with options for different levels of carbonation available.
While price is a factor, a 2018 Stiftung Warentest study found that cheaper mineral water brands can be of comparable quality to more expensive options. The study indicated that four of the five highest-rated classic mineral waters were among the most affordable tested.
FLSK, a brand of drinking bottle, is marketed as suitable for both soft drinks and water, for use at home or during outdoor activities, according to GALERIA, a German retailer.
Amazon.de currently lists a variety of mineral water products in glass bottles, including organic grapefruit-flavored refreshments from Landpark.
