A surge in international arrivals is anticipated at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) beginning April 8th, as tourism to Japan continues its robust recovery. The first wave of visitors will include those scheduled to arrive on the 7:00 AM flight, many of whom are targeting the popular Shibuya district for the start of their stay.

Shibuya, a ward known for its iconic scramble crossing and vibrant youth culture, lies approximately 24 kilometers (14.9 miles) from Haneda Airport, according to transportation authorities. Travelers have several options for making the journey, ranging in cost and convenience.

Taxi services offer a direct, though more expensive, route. Current estimates place a taxi fare from Haneda to Shibuya at around ¥7,800 (approximately $50.76 or €48.42), with a travel time of roughly 40 minutes. Taxi stands are readily available outside the arrival halls of each terminal at HND, with Terminal 3 noted for its drivers proficient in English communication.

For budget-conscious travelers, train services provide a more affordable alternative. Options include transferring at Hamamatsucho Station via the Tokyo Monorail to the JR Yamanote Line, or transferring at Shinagawa Station via the Keikyu Line to the JR Yamanote Line. Train fares range from ¥510 to ¥730 (approximately $3.22 to $4.61 or €3.13 to €4.48), with journey times between 27 and 40 minutes.

The Airport Limousine Bus too connects Haneda Airport directly to Shibuya, with a travel time of approximately 60 minutes. Fares vary depending on the time of day and traffic conditions, ranging from ¥720 to ¥1,200 (approximately $4.55 to $7.58 or €4.36 to €7.26).

Ride-sharing services, such as Uber, are also available. An Uber ride from HND to Shibuya is estimated to take 33 minutes and cost around ¥9,236 (approximately $59.14).

Transportation officials advise that travel times and costs are subject to change due to traffic and other unforeseen circumstances. As of June 2025, Uber allows reservations up to 90 days in advance.
