Game Science released a six-minute in-engine trailer for its upcoming action role-playing game, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, on February 10, 2026, as a celebration of the Chinese Latest Year. The trailer, revealed after the game was initially announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2025, showcases visually detailed scenes but carries a disclaimer stating the content is “non-canonical” and intended for entertainment purposes only.
The trailer depicts unsettling imagery, beginning with seemingly ordinary scenes of food preparation that quickly devolve into the bizarre. Characters are shown handling ingredients containing human-like eyes and unsettling figures appear subtly within the environment. Game Science has described the trailer as a tech demo, suggesting the scenes may not directly reflect the final game’s narrative or gameplay.
Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a sequel to 2024’s Black Myth: Wukong, which achieved significant commercial success, selling 10 million copies in just three days after its initial release for PC and PlayStation 5. Versions for Xbox Series X and S followed in August 2025. The new installment draws inspiration from the classic Chinese folklore tale of “Zhong Kui expelling evil,” according to Game Science.
Feng Ji of Game Science explained the decision to develop Zhong Kui stemmed from a desire for creative freedom and a departure from potential DLC for Wukong. He indicated the team sought to explore new ideas and address perceived shortcomings in their previous work. The studio aims to deliver “unique experiences and gameplay features” that push their creative boundaries.
While Black Myth: Zhong Kui is scheduled for release on PC and consoles, a specific launch date remains unconfirmed. Game Science announced the project at Gamescom 2025, describing it as a single-player action role-playing game set within a fantastical ancient Chinese world. Geoff Keighley, who presented the game’s reveal, identified Zhong Kui as the “ghost-catching god who wanders between Hell and Earth.”
