FBI Denies Involvement in ICE Raid: Conflicting Accounts & Abuse of Power Claims

A San Antonio family’s home was entered by armed agents, sparking an investigation into the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A viral video of the incident, captured by witnesses, shows agents entering the residence without immediately presenting a warrant, prompting questions about the legality of the operation and the agency’s procedures.

U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro has called for a full investigation into the February 6, 2026, incident, expressing concern over what he characterized as a pattern of aggressive immigration enforcement tactics. Castro stated the video raises “serious concerns about immigration enforcement practices,” particularly referencing actions taken during the Trump administration, alleging a deliberate increase in home raids without proper legal documentation.

The video depicts a tense exchange between agents and residents, with repeated requests for a warrant. One family member is heard claiming an agent broke a window during the entry. As agents prepared to leave, a man attempted to close the door, leading to a brief escalation before the agents departed without making any arrests.

Initial reports and the video itself contained conflicting information regarding the purpose of the operation. One agent verbally identified themselves as being with the FBI, however, the FBI confirmed to Univision San Antonio that it did not participate in the operation, stating it was conducted solely by ICE officials. The agents were initially heard stating they were searching for a “child molester,” but ICE later released a statement claiming they were seeking an undocumented immigrant with a history of violent offenses and prior arrests for domestic assault in Mexico.

These discrepancies have reignited debate over the scope of authority granted to federal agents during immigration enforcement actions. Vice President J.D. Vance recently defended the broad powers afforded to federal agents, asserting they possess “absolute immunity” when acting within the scope of their law enforcement duties. This assertion has raised concerns about the potential for agents to enter properties under questionable pretenses, without clear warrants, and the implications for public trust in law enforcement.

The San Antonio incident comes amid a broader context of ICE activity in the region. In November 2023, a major ICE operation in San Antonio resulted in the detention of over 140 individuals from Venezuela, Honduras, Mexico, and other South American countries, according to the FBI San Antonio.
