Claude now works directly within connected apps – from drafting Slack messages to updating Asana project timelines – without requiring you to leave the chatbot. Here’s how it functions.
The protocol that keeps on giving
Anthropic launched the Model Context Protocol (MCP) in late 2024. This open-source project connects AI models to external tools and data sources. Essentially, it allows AI chatbots and agents to interact with third-party platforms like a person.
Since then, MCP has become the standard for AI-powered productivity. Many companies, platforms, and developers are building and deploying MCP servers to connect tools and data sources.
Apple started working on MCP support across its operating systems last year, but progress has been slow.
regardless, Anthropic donated MCP to the Linux Foundation’s Agentic AI foundation late last year. Widespread adoption is expected to continue.
