Belkin’s Wemo smart home products will shut down later this week, years after thier launch, marking a significant closure in the smart home tech industry.
Belkin sold Wemo smart home devices primarily throughout the 2010s, and largely stopped manufacturing its smart switches and plugs around 2022. Last year, belkin announced the discontinued lineup, which integrates with Google Home, would lose service permanently in 2026, and that date is now imminent.
Belkin emailed users this week, reminding them that the Wemo app and “cloud-based features” will cease functioning on January 31,leaving devices with no functionality. Users can continue using select devices only through Apple HomeKit.
Belkin’s email states:
We’re reminding you that support for select Wemo products in the Wemo app will end in one week on January 31, 2026. After this date, the Wemo app and cloud-based features such as remote access and voice assistant integrations will no longer function. If your Wemo product is set up for use with Apple HomeKit, it will continue to function with Apple HomeKit after January 31, 2026. If your Wemo product works with Thread, it will continue to function with Thread after January 31, 2026.
If your product is still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026, you may be eligible for a refund.
