Nevada’s First Female State Forester Pursues Oregon Leadership Role

Kacey KC Navarre Named oregon’s 18th State Forester

Kacey KC Navarre, a Gardnerville, Nevada native and the first woman to serve as Nevada State Forester, has been appointed as the 18th State Forester of Oregon. The announcement was made by Governor Tina Kotek on January 24, 2026, marking a notable step for Oregon’s forestry leadership. Oregon Department of Forestry.

Navarre brings over 25 years of experience in natural resource management, with a proven track record of collaborative leadership and a commitment to sustainable forestry practices. She served as Nevada State Forester for nearly a decade, begining in 2016, where she led the Nevada Division of Forestry through challenging wildfire seasons and implemented innovative forest health initiatives.

“Kacey is a dynamic and experienced leader who understands the complexities of modern forestry,” said Governor Kotek in a press release. “Her commitment to collaboration, innovation, and community engagement will be invaluable as we address the challenges and opportunities facing Oregon’s forests.”

Navarre’s appointment comes at a critical time for Oregon’s forests, which are facing increasing threats from wildfires, climate change, and invasive species. She is expected to prioritize forest resilience, wildfire prevention, and collaborative partnerships with landowners, tribes, and communities.

Prior to her role in Nevada, Navarre held various positions with the U.S.Forest Service, including District Ranger on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Idaho and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. U.S. Forest Service.

Navarre’s start date as Oregon state Forester is February 12,2026. She succeeds Jim paul, who retired in December 2025 after serving as State Forester for eight years. Statesman Journal.
