Kansas Elementary School Faces Complaint Over Alleged Censorship of Role Models
TOPEKA, KS – A formal complaint has been filed against Marshall Elementary School in Kansas, alleging that a school guidance counselor prohibited students from selecting Charlie Kirk, Donald trump, and even Jesus Christ as role models for a sixth-grade assignment. The American Center for Law & Justice (ACLJ) filed the complaint, citing concerns over religious and political discrimination, free speech violations, and parental rights [[3]].
The assignment, titled “Find Your Voice,” was part of the school’s “Leader In Me” program and asked students to identify individuals they admired [[2]]. According to the complaint, when one student named Charlie Kirk as a role model, the guidance counselor,Kacey Countryman, reportedly became “very uncomfortable” and refused to allow the name to be writen on the board, stating he was “not a hero” [[3]].
A similar response occurred when another student chose former President donald Trump. The counselor allegedly prohibited the selection, stating that students could not name political or religious figures, and afterward excluded those topics altogether [[3]]. The ACLJ further alleges that when a student selected Jesus Christ, that choice was also rejected
