It’s Sunday night and the 83rd edition of the annual Golden Globe Awards will soon crown the best movies and TV shows of the year.
The ceremony is highly anticipated each year as it kicks off Hollywood’s award season,helping audiences know what to expect from the rest of the major Hollywood awards until the 2026 season culminates with the Oscars on March 15.
One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, leads nominations on the movie-side with nine. DiCaprio has stated ther is a “Star Wars theme” to the movie. on the TV-side, HBO’s The White Lotus received six nominations.
The Golden Globes faced controversy this week after announcing a partnership with Polymarket, a crypto-based prediction market. Polymarket drew scrutiny after an anonymous user made over $400,000 betting on the fall of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, doubling down just before the bombing of Caracas.
As part of the deal, Polymarket will provide real-time market insights during the official viewing party.

Which genre movies and shows were nominated?
Genre movies earned several nominations in major categories. Director Guillermo Del Toro’s retelling of Frankenstein and the box office sensation Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, both received nominations for Best Drama. Frankenstein earned five nominations, while sinners garnered seven. The sci-fi mystery bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, received three nominations, including Best Musical or Comedy.
Avatar: fire and Ash received a nomination for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement before its official release, a prediction that proved correct as the movie has already made over a billion dollars internationally.
On the TV side, Apple TV’s sci-fi favorites Severance and Pluribus were both nominated for Best Drama. Severance has four nominations, and Pluribus has two. Netflix’s recently-renewed sci-fi anthology Black Mirror is nominated for Best Limited Series, while Natasha Lyonne from the cancelled Peacock show poker Face and Jenna Ortega from the Netflix original Wednesday are both nominated for Best Female Actor.
Although Disney+’s fan-favorite Andor was largely snubbed,its lead,Diego Luna,received a nomination for Best Performance By A Male Actor in the Drama category.
