2026 World Cup Draw Held, Bolivia Faces Playoff Path
The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was conducted this Friday at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., one of the three host nations alongside Canada and Mexico. A key outcome of the draw was the determination of the bracket for Continental Playoff 2, where the Bolivian National team will compete for a tournament spot.
Bolivia secured their place in the playoff after finishing seventh in the South American qualifying table and defeating Venezuela. “La Verde” aims to qualify for the world cup for the first time in 32 years. Their path begins with a semi-final matchup against Suriname, with a potential final against Iraq awaiting the winner.
Had Venezuela qualified for the World Cup, they would have been placed in a challenging group alongside France, Senegal, and Norway.
FIFA will unveil the full 2026 World Cup calendar this Saturday, December 6th, revealing match dates and times. The announcement, scheduled for noon in Washington D.C., will also confirm the host venues. However, the final version of the calendar won’t be solidified until March, after the remaining six qualification spots are filled through European and FIFA qualifying matches.
The tournament, set to be played across 16 cities in North America, has already seen nearly two million tickets pre-sold. This edition of the World Cup will be historic,featuring 48 teams – a first for FIFA – and a total of 104 matches.
