Sydney Sweeney‘s “Christy” Faces Box Office Disappointment Despite Intense Preparation
Sydney Sweeney underwent a rigorous three-to-four-month training regimen and gained 13 pounds of muscle to portray Christy Salters in the recently released biopic, Christy. Despite Sweeney’s dedication to authenticity, the film has flopped in the American market, earning only $1.3 million on its opening weekend. This places Christy among the 10 worst wide-release opening weekends in recent years, trailing only films released during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic (April 2020 – May 2021). In comparison, the Bruce Springsteen biopic earned $9 million during its opening weekend.
Sweeney, who also served as a producer on the film, expressed pride in the project, stating,”I’m proud. why? Because we don’t always create just for the sake of good numbers, the cultural impact is also crucial. And Christy is the most impactful project of my life.”
Despite the poor box office performance, the film tells the story of Christy Salters and is currently playing in Hungarian cinemas.
