Ukraine Begins production of Long-Range “Flamingo” Cruise Missile
Ukraine has substantially bolstered its military capabilities with the commencement of serial production of the ”Flamingo” long-range cruise missile. Confirmed by initial photos shared by photographer Eframs Lukackis, this development represents a major advancement in Ukraine’s defense industry and strategic reach.
Extended Range and Payload:
the “Flamingo” boasts an impressive range exceeding 3,000 kilometers, effectively doubling the range of comparable missiles like the Tomahawk Block V (approximately 1,600 kilometers). Equipped with a 1,000-kilogram warhead, the missile presents a substantial threat.
Based on Milanion Group’s FP-5 Design:
Analysis by Defense Express suggests the “Flamingo” is closely based on the FP-5 model developed by Milanion Group, unveiled earlier this year. This indicates a focus on a design optimized for efficient mass production. Key specifications include a 6-ton maximum takeoff weight,a 6-meter wingspan,a maximum speed of 950 km/h,a cruising speed of 850-900 km/h,and an endurance of over 4 hours.
Resilient to Electronic Warfare & Rapid Deployment:
The “Flamingo” utilizes a robust navigation system combining satellite and inertial guidance, making it highly resistant to electronic warfare tactics – a critical feature in modern conflict.Despite its advanced technology, the missile’s design prioritizes simplicity, allowing for relatively swift preparation for launch, taking between 20 and 40 minutes. Milanion Group estimates a production capacity of over 50 missiles annually.
Engine Details remain Under Wraps:
The specific engine type powering the “Flamingo” remains undisclosed. Experts speculate it could be a pulsating air jet or a turbojet engine, with the latter raising questions about engine supply for large-scale production. Ukrainian officials have yet to comment on the project.
Combat Footage Expected:
Further details and, crucially, video footage from actual combat deployments are anticipated soon, providing a more comprehensive evaluation of the ”Flamingo’s” capabilities and effectiveness. Recent reports indicate that video demonstrations of the missile in action have already been published by ZN.UA, confirming its operational status.
