“Platonic” scores Season 3 Renewal at Apple TV+
LOS ANGELES, November 17, 2023 – Apple TV+ has renewed the comedy series “Platonic” for a third season, the streamer announced Friday morning. The series, starring and executive produced by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, will return to continue it’s exploration of midlife friendship and reconnection.
“Platonic” initially premiered in May 2023 and quickly garnered attention for its relatable portrayal of two former best friends navigating life’s challenges. The show follows Sylvia (byrne) and Will (Rogen), who reconnect after a period of drifting apart, offering each other support as they navigate divorce, parenthood, and personal reinvention. A running gag in the series involves Will’s habit of disrupting e-scooters and delivery robots in Los Angeles.
The renewal comes after the triumphant launch of Season 2 this August, wich saw Luke Macfarlane’s character, Charlie, grapple with his own midlife crisis. The cast also includes Carla Gallo as Katie, with guest appearances from Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Milo Manheim.
“‘Platonic’ is proof there is no duo better at making us belly laugh at mid life crises than Seth and Rose,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Nick and Francesca accomplished the rare feat of taking the show to the next level in season two, and, along with our partners at Sony, we can’t wait to see what they cook up for season three.”
“Platonic” is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco serving as executive producers and co-creators. Stoller’s Global Solutions, Point Gray Pictures (Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver), and Byrne, Stoller, Delbanco, and Conor Welch also executive produce.
Both Rogen and Byrne maintain ongoing relationships with Apple TV+. Rogen stars in, writes, directs, and executive produces the Emmy-winning comedy “The Studio,” while Byrne also appears in the series “physical” for the streamer.
