MTSU Trustees Approve New Graduate Programs in High-Demand Fields

Murfreesboro, TN – The MTSU Board of Trustees recently authorized the advancement⁣ of new graduate degree programs in healthcare and film/television, responding to growing workforce needs and⁤ student demand.The approvals,‌ made during a recent meeting, ‍signal the university’s commitment to expanding its ​academic offerings in strategically important areas.

These new programs-details of which were not immediately released-come as Tennessee and the nation face critical shortages in both⁤ healthcare​ professionals and skilled creatives in the entertainment industry. the​ additions will position MTSU​ to better serve students ‍seeking advanced training and to contribute to the economic vitality ​of the region by supplying a pipeline of qualified graduates.

Beyond the ⁤program approvals, trustees also recognized⁢ MTSU’s recent national accolades, including rankings from The ⁢Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, and Newsweek Magazine.​ The university was further honored as “best College/University” by readers of The Tennessean in the 2025 Best of Music City Awards, besting Vanderbilt University ‍and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, as finalists.

In other business, the board approved a restructuring of the College of ‍Education to align academic programs with their respective disciplines and professional focuses. Additionally, market-based​ salary increases for faculty and staff were ⁢authorized, effective january 1, ‍2026, for those ⁣employed as of December 31, 2025. Trustees also ratified a revised budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, incorporating adjustments to tuition revenue, appropriations, expenditures, and​ auxiliary/restricted funds.
