Havana Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Street Vendors Near Boyeros bridge

Havana, December 4, 2025 – A joint operation involving multiple Cuban government agencies resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals and the issuing of five fines ranging from 16,000 to 32,000 pesos for illegal street vending in the commercial area surrounding the 100 and Boyeros Bridge in Havana, authorities announced today.

The operation, conducted by the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), the thorough Directorate of Supervision and Control (DISC), the National Institute of Territorial Planning and Urban Planning (INOTU), and the General Directorate of Provincial Transportation of Havana (DGTPH), aims to address persistent issues of illicit trade in the area.

Ernesto Ramírez Téllez, specialist in inspection and control of the Boyeros Government, stated that the operation also focused on regulating parking, specifically delineating spaces for the marketing area and the adjacent Metropolitan Bank. “We have established a Command Post in the marketing area, with the participation of the PNR, INOTU, DISC, the DGTPH and the Government, with the objective of confronting illegalities in the place,” Ramírez emphasized.

Authorities also reported controlling the presence of unaccompanied minors in the area. Amed Pérez López, head of the Boyeros Real Estate territory, explained that investigations revealed the illegal vendors were primarily individuals from outside the immediate vicinity.

The crackdown comes as the Cuban government continues efforts to regulate informal economic activity and maintain order in key commercial zones.
