Among those affected by the increased enforcement is Cristina Osornio, a legal permanent resident of the U.S. and mother of six, who was detained in Benton County following a traffic stop months after her husband’s deportation to Mexico, as reported by the AP. Her case illustrates the program’s impact on families and communities.
The growing reliance on local jails for ICE detention raises questions about due process, oversight, and the potential for racial profiling. Civil rights groups are closely monitoring the program’s implementation and advocating for greater transparency and accountability.
