The prince, participating in a bit where he auditioned for a Hallmark-style Christmas movie role, responded to Colbert’s questioning about why a real prince would seek such a part with the line, “Really? I hear you elected a king,” a pointed allusion to the demonstrations against former President Trump’s policies.
The “No Kings” protests, which took place in cities including New york, Washington D.C., Chicago, Miami, and los Angeles, were a response to policies perceived as authoritarian during the Trump presidency. harry’s remark came after he joked about Americans being “obsessed” with both Christmas movies and royalty. He further quipped he would “do anything” for the role, including “settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House – all the things you people in TV do,” referencing CBS’s recent settlement with Trump. Colbert responded, “Hey, I didn’t do any of those things,” to which Harry retorted, ”Maybe that’s why you’re cancelled,” referencing the announced end of The Late Show in May 2026.
