Chieti, Italy, has been selected as a host city for the 2029 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship, marking the first time Abruzzo will host a major European football competition. The proclamation, made today by the UEFA executive committee meeting in Nyon, confirms the ”Guido Angelini” stadium in Chieti as a venue for the tournament’s final phase.
Italy secured the bid to host the championship, with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) collaborating with the Abruzzo and Marche regions. This is onyl the second time Italy has hosted the Women’s Under-19 European Championship, but represents a meaningful milestone for football progress in Abruzzo, recognizing the growing investment in the women’s game at the club level.
Matches will also be held in Pineto (Abruzzo), fermo, and San Benedetto del Tronto (Marche), with additional regional facilities designated as training grounds.FIGC President Gabriele Gravina hailed the decision as “an critically important recognition for the FIGC and for the entire Italian women’s movement,” adding, “Hosting an event whose interest is constantly growing represents a fundamental element, capable of generating a considerable driving force for the activity and a positive impact on the territories involved.”
Concezio Memmo, President of the Abruzzo National Amateur League, emphasized the importance for the region, stating, “For the first time Abruzzo sees a European competition taking place on its territory… It is indeed a reward for the work of the Federation and the clubs, an chance for growth for everyone.” The Lnd Abruzzo has pledged to fully support the event.
