UAlbany Launches AI Master’s Program to Bridge Tech and Industry Expertise
ALBANY, NY – December 4, 2024 – The University at Albany today announced the launch of a new Master of science program in Artificial Intelligence, designed to equip students with the skills to navigate a rapidly evolving job market. The program, a collaboration between UAlbany’s College of Arts and Sciences and the Massry School of Business, will begin accepting applications instantly for a Fall 2025 start.
The initiative responds to a growing demand for professionals who can effectively integrate AI technologies into diverse fields. As artificial intelligence reshapes industries from finance to healthcare, the program aims to provide a unique blend of technical AI knowledge and practical domain expertise, ensuring graduates are prepared for future challenges and opportunities. This investment positions ualbany at the forefront of AI education in the Capital Region and beyond.
“Our goal is to make sure that we combine AI knowledge with domain knowledge,” explained Professor Sanjay Goel,a key architect of the program. The master’s program is intended as a complement to a student’s existing specialization, rather than a replacement, allowing them to deepen their understanding of AI’s applications within their chosen field.
Paquita davis-Friday, Dean of the Massry School of business, emphasized the program’s holistic approach. “The combination of the university’s investment in AI together with the specialization that you can do in the Massry School to understand how it applies to business and the disciplines will prepare our graduates for anything that they need to encounter in the workforce,” she said.
UAlbany’s new program joins a growing number of universities nationwide offering specialized AI education. However, the program’s emphasis on pairing technical skills with real-world application sets it apart, offering a pathway for professionals to become leaders in the age of artificial intelligence.
