MLB Free Agency Buzz: Kyle Tucker Visits Blue Jays; Dodgers Extend Miguel Rojas
toronto, ON – In a rapidly evolving MLB offseason, Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker is reportedly visiting wiht the Toronto Blue Jays, according to multiple reports. The move signals a potential shift in the free agency landscape as teams jockey for position ahead of the winter meetings.
The Blue Jays, seeking to bolster their offensive firepower, are considered a strong contender for Tucker, who hit .289 with 21 home runs and 89 RBIs in 2023. His arrival would address a need in the outfield and provide a significant boost to a lineup that reached the Wild Card series. Simultaneously occurring, the Los Angeles Dodgers have extended the contract of infielder Miguel Rojas, removing one potential free agent from the market.
Elsewhere, New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger is expected to opt out of his contract for next season and become a free agent. Despite a triumphant season with the Yankees (29 HRs, 98 RBIs and a .272/.334/.480 slash line), Bellinger’s future remains uncertain. He will be joined in free agency by outfielder Trent Grisham, who hit a career-high 34 home runs this season.
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder kyle Schwarber is also facing a crucial offseason decision. After fighting back tears following the Phillies’ Game 4 loss to the Dodgers in the NLDS, Schwarber acknowledged the emotional weight of perhaps leaving the organization. “You just make a lot of different relationships in the clubhouse,” Schwarber said. “You don’t know how it’s going to work out. You just make so many personal relationships with these guys … They become family. You just never know. These guys all know how I feel about them. This is a premier organization and a lot of people should be very lucky that, one, you’re playing for a team that tries to win every single year – and you have a fan base that cares and ownership that cares.” Schwarber hit a career-high 47 home runs this season and is expected to be a premier free agent.
Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto was less forthcoming about his plans, stating, “I’m not here to talk about free agency, dude.Don’t ask that question right now.”
