‘Chad Powers’ Scores Season 2 Renewal at Hulu
Hulu has renewed the comedy series Chad Powers,starring Glen Powell,for a second season,the streamer announced Wednesday. Powell will reprise his role as the titular character.
The series originated from the ESPN and Omaha Productions segment “Eli’s Places,” which featured Eli Manning using prosthetics to attempt a walk-on tryout at Penn State.
Season 1, co-created by Powell and Loki writer Michael Waldron, followed disgraced former Oregon star quarterback Russ Holliday as he attempted to redeem himself eight years after derailing his football career. He dose so by posing as Chad Powers, a uniquely talented walk-on for the struggling South Georgia Catfish. The season finale saw Chad and the Catfish facing the georgia Bulldogs wiht a potential win on the horizon, while Russ’s secret identity was on the verge of being exposed.
Filmed during an actual Georgia Bulldogs football game, the finale’s authenticity is expected to continue into future seasons. Waldron previously stated his intention to incorporate as much genuine SEC football as possible and to advance the story “pretty much in real time,” suggesting Season 2 will pick up shortly after the events of the first.
Chad Powers debuted on September 30 and quickly gained traction, reaching No. 34 on Luminate’s Top 50 streaming shows with nearly 1.6 million hours viewed for its single initial episode. The following week, it climbed to No. 19 with 2.2 million hours viewed across two episodes, and remained consistently ranked throughout its six-episode run.
The cast also includes Perry Mattfeld as Ricky, Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as tricia Yeager, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny, and Steve Zahn as coach Jake Hudson.
Executive producers are Powell, Waldron, eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, ben brown, Burke Magnus, Brian Lockhart, Kati Fernandez, Adam Fasullo, Luvh Rakhe, and Tony Yacenda. The series is produced by 20th Television.
Season 1 is currently available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
