Hamilton’s Ferrari Struggles: Schumacher Doubts Record Champ’s Future

Ralf Schumacher: Hamilton “Can’t Do It Anymore,” Urges Ferrari to Promote Bearman

Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has delivered a scathing assessment of Lewis Hamilton’s current form, stating he believes the seven-time world champion is no longer capable of competing at the highest level and should not be driving for Ferrari next year. Schumacher’s comments come after Hamilton’s challenging performance at the recent Japanese Grand prix, where he finished seventh.

The blunt critique centers on Schumacher’s belief that Hamilton, nearing 41 years old, has lost the ability to adapt his driving style. This assessment carries important weight as Hamilton is slated to join ferrari in 2025 on a deal extending through at least 2026, a move widely anticipated to revitalize both the driver and the team.schumacher suggests Ferrari should instead prioritize developing their junior driver, Oliver Bearman, who is currently performing well with Haas, pairing him with Charles Leclerc for the 2026 season.

“Unfortunately, from my point of view, Lewis no longer belongs in the Ferrari next year,” Schumacher explained in an exclusive video interview on Formula1.de. “In my view, you should [Ferrari-Junior] Bring in Oliver Bearman, who delivers great performances at Haas and who will also be the future for Ferrari. And Bearman and Leclerc would be a great team for ’26.”

While acknowledging Hamilton’s continued speed when the car is optimized, Schumacher is unconvinced a turnaround is absolutely possible. “He’s still fast. He’s shown that here and there when the car is right,” he conceded, but added, “But at the age of almost 41, he ‘can no longer change his driving style,’ believes the expert and explains: ‘I see the big risk for next year.'”

Schumacher expressed skepticism that Ferrari’s new car concept will suit Hamilton’s current style, stating, “It can of course happen that this new concept is a great fit for Lewis Hamilton for some reason,” but believes this chance is rather low.”And that’s why I’m steadfast: He won’t be able to do it anymore. He just can’t do it anymore,” Schumacher concluded. He hopes Hamilton will recognize the situation and retire at the end of the year, acknowledging the risk to the team.

Hamilton’s contract with Ferrari currently runs through at least the end of 2026, with the exact duration never officially disclosed.
