Police Minister’s Driver Arrested for High-Range Drink-Driving
Bega, NSW – The driver of a vehicle transporting NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley was arrested Tuesday and charged with high-range drink-driving, police confirmed. The incident occurred ahead of a scheduled event to open the newly completed $23 million Bega Police Station.
The driver underwent a roadside breath test which returned a positive result, leading to his arrest. Subsequent testing at Bega police station revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.183 – more than three times the legal limit. The driver’s license has been suspended,and he is scheduled to appear in Bega Local Court on December 24.
Minister Catley was not in the vehicle at the time of the arrest. She is slated to officially open the new Bega Police Station alongside NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon on Wednesday, showcasing the facility’s “state-of-the-art” resources and technology designed to enhance community safety, according to a press release issued by the Minister’s office.
Police have confirmed the man has been charged with high-range drink-driving. Further details are expected to emerge as the case proceeds through the court system.
