‘Home Improvement‘ Star Zachery Ty Bryan Arrested After Fiancée Allegedly Attempts to Run Him Over
EUGENE, Ore. – Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role as Brad Taylor on the 1990s sitcom “Home Improvement,” was arrested over the weekend following an incident in which his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, allegedly attempted to run him over with a vehicle. No one was injured in the incident, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s office.
Bryan, 32, and Cartwright, 31, were questioned by deputies who ”observed signs” that both were “impaired.” Cartwright was initially arrested for reckless driving, three counts of reckless endangerment, and driving under the influence (DUI). Two of the reckless endangerment charges were subsequently cleared, according to Lane County Jail records.Bryan was later arrested for violating a court order stemming from a prior domestic violence case.
The arrest marks the latest in a series of legal troubles for Bryan, who has been arrested six times in the last five years. In 2021, he pleaded guilty to attempting to strangle Cartwright, later downplaying the incident as “blown out of proportion.” As part of the plea agreement, he was ordered not to contact her, despite the couple having three children together.
Authorities stated the couple’s children are currently in the care of a family member.
Bryan also pleaded guilty to a felony assault against an unnamed woman in October 2023. He was arrested twice for DUI in 2024, and again in early 2025 during a domestic dispute in South Carolina where he allegedly choked and punched a woman with whom he shares children.
Bryan shares four additional children with his ex-wife, Carly Matros, from whom he separated in 2020 after 13 years of marriage. He did not participate in the “Home Improvement” cast reunion in September 2023. Bryan is currently being held without bail and is scheduled for release on Wednesday, according to Lane County Jail records.
