ISTANBUL - Jhon Durán’s stoppage-time header secured a 1-1 draw for fenerbahçe against rivals Galatasaray Monday evening in a fiercely contested Süper Lig derby. The late equalizer denied Galatasaray the prospect to extend their lead at the top of the Turkish league table.
The match, played at Fenerbahçe‘s home stadium, saw Galatasaray take the lead in the 27th minute through a solo effort from Leroy Sané. Sané skillfully evaded two Fenerbahçe defenders before firing a deflected shot from 20 meters past the goalkeeper, marking his fourth league goal of the season - second only to Victor Osimhen for Galatasaray.However, Durán’s dramatic intervention in the fifth minute of added time, heading home a cross from Levent Mercan, leveled the score and ignited celebrations among the home supporters.
The result leaves Galatasaray narrowly ahead of Fenerbahçe in the Süper Lig standings after 14 matchdays.
