Tarsier Studios Narrative Director Voices Skepticism About AI in Game Advancement

Stockholm, Sweden – Dave Mervick, narrative director at tarsier studios – the team behind Little Nightmares and Reanimal – has expressed strong reservations about the increasing role of artificial intelligence in game development. In a recent interview with Gamereactor, Mervick stated, “Personally, I hate it,” though he qualified his position by acknowledging the potential for AI to be a positive force, depending on its request.

Mervick’s concerns stem from a lack of demonstrated artistic benefit and anxieties fueled by popular culture. He drew a parallel to other powerful technologies, noting, “The Internet can be a wonderful thing and a complete drain, social media can connect people and isolate them, so it remains to be seen how AI will evolve.” He envisions two potential paths for AI: a “creatively deprived human centipede” or a tool that “democratizing the art world and liberating creativity.”

The full interview, offering further insight into Tarsier Studios’ development and their perspective on Supermassive Games’ continuation of the Little Nightmares series, will be published on Gamereactor shortly.
