God of War TV Show Casting Underway with Ron Moore Directing
Prime Video’s upcoming God of War television series is now actively casting, following the arrival of veteran television producer Ron Moore as showrunner in late 2023.The series, based on the critically acclaimed video game franchise, already has two seasons ordered.
Moore joined the production after a meaningful creative overhaul that saw the departure of the original creative leads. He emphasized the adaptation process, stating to Collider,”It’s an adaptation,so it’s an adaptation-slash-interpretation as you go into live-action,and it’s been really fun to sort of go,’Wow,there’s a lot here we can play with.Okay, we want to keep the story. We want to keep the characters and the spirit of it.'” The show will primarily draw inspiration from the 2018 God of War game, which reimagined the franchise with a new narrative focus and setting.
Sony Santa Monica’s God of War franchise is one of the company’s most successful, with 2022’s God of War Ragnarok concluding the Norse saga. While a new God of War game is anticipated, sony Santa Monica is also reportedly developing a new intellectual property. Other video game adaptations currently in development at prime Video include series based on Wolfenstein and Mass Affect.
