International Legal Resonance: Workshop Call for Abstracts

International Workshop to Explore Why Some Global Crises Gain Legal Focus,Others Don’t

The Hague,Netherlands ‌ – The Asser ​Institute is hosting a workshop focused ⁢on “International Legal Resonance,” investigating⁣ the phenomenon of selective attention within ‌international law – why certain breaches⁢ of international law ⁢garner meaningful response while others are largely​ overlooked. The workshop seeks to ⁣understand how international lawyers engage with global ⁤crises and the factors ‍influencing which issues gain prominence.

Scholars⁢ from international law, ⁤international relations, history, sociology, philosophy, and related disciplines are invited to submit proposals. Research may explore existing scholarship on selective attention, the role of “resonance” in shaping legal engagement, case studies demonstrating how shifts in attention ‍impacted legal⁢ or political outcomes, or the⁢ influence of traditional and digital media in directing focus.

Interested applicants should‌ submit a 250-300 word abstract and a one-page​ CV to both c.lewis@asser.nl and g.chlevickaite@asser.nl with the subject line⁢ ‘Workshop on⁢ International Legal ⁤Resonance’ by 23:59 hrs CET on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.Prosperous applicants​ will be informed by mid-November 2025.

The workshop will be held in person⁢ at the⁣ Asser Institute, with limited funding ‍available for travel and accommodation.Remote⁤ participation will be ⁣considered on an exceptional⁢ basis.
