DIY Retailer Gedimat Expands Footprint in Southwest France with Two New Stores
Limoux, france – Gedimat, a major player in the French DIY and building materials market, is bolstering its presence in Occitania and Aveyron with two upcoming store openings. The expansions signify continued growth for the François Group, a Gedicoop member, and cater to both professional contractors and individual customers.
The first new location, in Limoux, opened recently on a 4,000 m2 plot, featuring 400 m2 of retail space – 75% dedicated to self-service. A second store is planned for Laissac,Aveyron,taking the place of a former BigMat location,and slated to open December 1st,2025,on 4,700 m2 of land with 675 m2 of retail space. Thes openings reflect Gedicoop’s broader strategy of network development across six departments: Aveyron,Tarn,Lozère,haute-Garonne,cantal and Lot.
Gedicoop, established in 1967, operates under three brands – Gedimat, Gedimat Concept Store (specializing in carpentry, flooring, and bathrooms), and Gedibois (focused on wood and panel products).As of January 1st, 2025, the cooperative boasts 545 points of sale (486 Gedimat and Gedimat Concept Store, including 32 in Belgium, and 59 Gedibois stores) and employs 7,000 people, generating a turnover of 2.5 billion euros excluding tax. The Limoux store will be staffed by six people, while the Laissac location will employ a team of four. Both stores will offer a general range of building materials and supplies.
