Handball Legend Camilla Herrem Predicts Norway‘s Victory at World Championship Despite Retirement
Retired Norwegian handball star Camilla herrem forecasts a gold medal for her home country at the upcoming World Championship, predicting france will secure silver and Denmark bronze. Herrem, recently named “Role model of the year” at the KK gala and a nominee for VG’s “Name of the Year,” offered her insights to the French newspaper L’Equipe.
Herrem’s prediction comes after a decorated international career concluded with Olympic and European Championship gold for norway within a 127-day span last year. Having participated in 20 championships for Norway – every major tournament from the 2008 European Championship through last year’s, excluding the 2022 European Championship play-offs due to pregnancy – Herrem will experience the competition from the sidelines for the first time in over a decade. the veteran player’s retirement marks the end of an era alongside fellow national team mainstay Katrine Lunde, who is set to play her 25th and final championship for Norway, setting a World Championship record.
“I will be glued to the TV, like all other Norwegians, but probably even more engaged than a normal supporter. I of course hope Norway wins,” Herrem told L’Equipe. ”I think france will take silver and Denmark bronze. There are three high-level nations. Denmark is becoming increasingly stable, and France and Norway are always among the favourites. It will be exciting to follow! I’m going to sit and trip on the sofa.”
