Juso Delegates Rail Against SPD Leadership,Bürgergeld Reform at Party Conference

Juso-Chef Philipp Türmer delivered a scathing assessment of the alliance with the Free Democrats and Greens, characterizing it as “a prison for our own ideas.” The internal criticism underscores growing tensions within the SPD over the direction of Chancellor Olaf scholz’s government and its approach to social welfare.
The dispute centers on the revised Bürgergeld legislation, which introduces stricter requirements and potential sanctions for recipients.Türmer dismissed the premise of the reform, arguing that the notion of “total refusers” – individuals deliberately avoiding work – is largely nonexistent. “It is more likely to encounter a wolf while walking than a total refuser while shopping,” he stated, according to Bild. This pointed criticism reflects a broader concern among Jusos that the reforms prioritize punitive measures over genuine support for those seeking employment.
Beyond the Bürgergeld debate, delegates voiced frustration with what they perceive as a lack of boldness from the SPD leadership.
