linda Hamilton Prioritizes Presence and Flexibility Over Anti-Aging Efforts
LONDON – Actress Linda Hamilton, known for her iconic roles in the Terminator franchise and recently appearing in NetflixS Stranger Things, shared her beliefs on aging in a new interview with AARP,emphasizing the importance of embracing the present moment and maintaining flexibility rather than striving to recapture youth.
Hamilton, 67, revealed she doesn’t focus on “chasing beauty” as she gets older, believing that rigidity – in thought and body - is detrimental to a fulfilling life. Her perspective resonates as societal pressures around aging, particularly for women in the entertainment industry, remain intense. This approach offers a counter-narrative to the often-promoted ideals of cosmetic intervention and relentless self-optimization, potentially influencing how audiences and individuals view the aging process.
“I’m fully planted in the moment, but that doesn’t mean you don’t try to be healthy,” Hamilton told AARP. “But not all the time - sometimes it is just a jelly donut.” She added, “I’m not rigid, which is a fantastic way to get older. I’ve always said that rigidifying is what kills us: the rigid thoughts and the sort of not moving.”
The actress stressed the value of adaptability, stating, “I’ve tried very hard in my life to stay as fluid as possible.” She likened a happy life to navigating a fast-moving river, advising against resisting the current. “One definition of happiness is being in the middle of a fast-moving river and not trying to swim to the left or the right side,” Hamilton explained. “And that, truly, is kind of what my life has been. It’s been a great, fun ride.”
