JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida Ospreys women’s basketball team secured a 61-57 victory over Bethune-Cookman Friday, fueled by a balanced scoring attack featuring four players in double figures.The win, UNF’s second straight at home, moves them to 2-4 overall as they continue play in the North Florida Invitational.
The Ospreys established early control with a 15-6 run in the first quarter, led by six points from Dezuray McGill and five from Alexa Washington, finishing the period ahead 16-9. Back-to-back three-pointers from Abby Knauff and Jamisyn Stinson in the second quarter extended the led to 27-13, though Bethune-Cookman narrowed the gap before halftime, leaving UNF ahead 32-28.
North Florida continued to build it’s advantage in the third, outscoring Bethune-Cookman 15-12 to lead 47-40 entering the final frame. A key and-one play from Knauff in the fourth quarter helped maintain a comfortable lead, and a late steal by McGill sealed the victory with six seconds remaining.
McGill finished with 10 points,along with two rebounds and two blocked shots. Knauff, Alonya Waldon, and Jamisyn stinson each contributed 11 points, with knauff’s performance marking a new career high. The Ospreys dominated inside, holding a 32-26 advantage in paint points and an 8-2 edge in fast break points. A total of 12 UNF players saw action, with six contributing to the scoring effort.
North Florida will continue the North Florida Invitational on Nov. 28, hosting Campbell at 1:30 p.m. in UNF Arena.
