Toonz Media Group CEO P. Jayakumar to Retire After Quarter-Century Leading Indian Animation Studio
Thiruvananthapuram, india – P. jayakumar is stepping down as CEO of Toonz Media Group after 26 years, effective November 30. The declaration marks the end of an era for the Indian animation studio, wich Jayakumar transformed from a local pioneer into a global player specializing in kids and family entertainment.
JayakumarS departure comes as toonz continues to expand its international footprint, with studios and offices established across India, Ireland, Spain, and New Zealand. His leadership has been instrumental in the company’s production and distribution of thousands of hours of animated content, collaborating with major studios, broadcasters, and streaming platforms worldwide. The transition is designed to ensure stability, with viswanath Rao, the group’s acting CEO, and recently appointed finance director and board member Karthik V.Kumar, facilitating the process.
“Leading Toonz has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life,” Jayakumar said in a statement. “What began as a dream shared by a small,passionate team has today grown into a global powerhouse of creativity and storytelling.”
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, Toonz Media Group focuses on animation, VFX, and digital content for children and families. Current projects include “New-Gen nanobot Heroes” and “Hangry Petz.”
Jayakumar indicated plans to pursue a new venture following his retirement. “While I step down from my current role,I will always remain emotionally connected to Toonz. In the coming months, I intend to embark on a new venture that continues my lifelong passion for creativity and collaboration in the global entertainment space,” he said.
