cat Displays Maternal Instincts, Comforts Newborn with Behavior Echoing Kittenhood
A North Carolina mother is marveling at her cat’s unexpected and heartwarming reaction too her newborn daughter, Hailey Michelle. Kylie, the baby’s mother, observed a remarkable shift in her cat Padmé’s behavior after the baby’s arrival - a response that appears to mimic the feline’s own experiences as a mother. The story, gaining traction online after Kylie shared a video on TikTok, highlights the frequently enough-surprising emotional depth and nurturing instincts of animals.
Initially,Padmé exhibited clinginess towards Kylie during her pregnancy, constantly seeking closeness and following her. This raised concerns about how the cat would adjust to a new baby in the home. However, those worries were quickly replaced with amazement when Padmé began responding to Hailey Michelle’s cries in a way that mirrored her interactions with her own kittens.
“I noticed after about two weeks that Padmé would roll over on her back when my baby cried, just like she used to when her kittens meowed,” Kylie explained.A video documenting Padmé’s apparent desire to allow the baby to nurse has gone viral, demonstrating the cat’s strong maternal drive.
Kylie notes Padmé is actively working to build a bond with the six-week-old Hailey Michelle. “She used to just purr and admire her from a distance, but now she’s getting bolder and sitting on the stool or at my feet while I breastfeed the baby,” Kylie said.
padmé herself is an experienced mother, having previously raised five kittens, one of whom still lives with Kylie. “Padmé was and still is the most patient and loving mother. I would say she is a great role model for all cat mothers,” Kylie added, believing the newborn’s presence has triggered Padmé’s maternal instincts.
