Nathacha Appanah Awarded 2025 Goncourt Prize for High School Students
PARIS – November 27, 2025 – Nathacha Appanah has been awarded the prestigious Goncourt Prize for high School Students for her novel, Le ciel par-dessus le toit, it was announced today. The announcement marks a significant moment for contemporary literature adn reading promotion within French secondary schools.
the Goncourt of high school students, established to cultivate a love of reading and introduce young audiences to current literary works, can generate sales of several hundred thousand copies annually. This year’s selection recognizes Appanah’s contribution to a lineage of celebrated authors, joining previous winners including Sandrine Collette, Joël Dicker, Gaël Faye, Alice Zeniter, and Neige Sinno. The prize is intended to encourage reading within educational establishments.
