Punishment Likely for 49ers’ Jauan Jennings,Panthers’ Tre’von Moehrig Following On-Field Altercations
Teh NFL will investigate multiple altercations between San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings and Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig that occured during and after Monday night’s game, with punishment for both players likely,NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Monday morning.
The incidents began during the game when video footage showed Moehrig punching Jennings below the belt. Following the game, Jennings attempted to confront Moehrig and had to be restrained by his own teammates.
“As the NFL does with these types of incidents, the league is looking into the multiple altercations between tre’von Moehrig and Jauan Jennings both during and after Monday night’s game,” Pelissero reported via X (formerly Twitter). “The TV cameras caught Moehrig punching Jennings right in the 49ers. Jennings did not take well to that, ended up going after Moehrig after the game, had to be separated and held back by teammates.”
Pelissero added that the league has issued multiple suspensions this season for spitting, and unsportsmanlike conduct has been a point of emphasis.
Moehrig told reporters after the game he anticipates being fined for his actions. Jennings faces potential discipline ranging from a fine to a one-game suspension, similar to the penalty Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch received earlier this year for throwing punches, though a lesser penalty may be considered given Moehrig’s initial action.
