Texas Women’s Soccer: Ange Kelly Fired After 14 Seasons

Texas fires Women’s Soccer Coach Ange Kelly

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Chris Del Conte, the athletic director for the ​University of Texas, announced ⁤Monday​ the ⁣firing of Longhorns women’s soccer coach⁢ Ange Kelly after 14 seasons leading the program.

The decision comes following a challenging 2023 season where the​ Longhorns finished with a 4-12-1 overall record and a 2-8-0 ⁣mark in Southeastern Conference play. This marked the third ⁢losing season for ‍Texas under Kelly’s leadership, following accomplished years including‌ a SEC tournament championship and NCAA tournament⁢ bid in 2022.

During​ her tenure,Kelly amassed a record of 161-90-35 and guided the⁢ Longhorns to eight NCAA Tournament appearances,reaching the Sweet 16 twice. Prior to this season, Kelly led the team to three consecutive conference championships -​ two​ Big ​12 titles and the ‌2022 SEC tournament title.

Del Conte stated that Kelly “led this program in ⁣a first-class manner and has ⁤poured tremendous energy and⁤ dedication into our student-athletes and staff over the past 14 seasons.” He added, “After​ the season, we took time to reflect on ⁣this year, the future of Texas Soccer and where the program⁤ is‍ headed. Following thoughtful discussion,⁤ we​ think it is ​in the best interest of The ⁣University of Texas to move ‍in a new direction.”

Kelly expressed⁤ gratitude for her time at Texas, saying,​ “I⁤ want to extend my deepest thankfulness to‍ our staff and all of the student-athletes who have represented the burnt orange.I will always cherish the relationships that have been made ​and ‍will forever⁣ hold them close to my heart.”

The University​ has ‌not yet announced plans for an interim​ or permanent replacement.
