PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland State freshman Alivia Eikenberg has been named to the Big Sky Conference Volleyball all-Conference First Team, the league announced today.Eikenberg is the first Viking freshman to earn First Team honors since Whitney Phillips in 2010.
Eikenberg’s selection caps a remarkable debut season for the outside hitter, who quickly established herself as one of the Big Sky’s most dominant offensive threats. She recorded 10+ kills in all 14 Big Sky matches she played, and 11 of her 15 double-doubles came during conference play. Eikenberg finished the season with 378 total kills and 416.0 points, both single-season freshman records for Portland state.
The freshman averaged 3.82 kills per set across all matches, ranking fourth among all NCAA Division I freshmen. Eikenberg posted 21 matches with 10+ kills and four with 20+, including a career-high 28 kills against Eastern Washington on October 23 – the most by a Viking as Phillips’ 28-kill performance against Montana State on September 17, 2010. She concluded the season just one double-double shy of the freshman record of 16, set in 2004.
Eikenberg is joined on the All-Conference First Team by teammates from Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, and Weber State.
