SAN JOSE, CA – ⁢ Gotham ‍FC defeated‌ teh Washington Spirit 1-0 Saturday night at⁤ paypal Park, claiming the ⁤National Women’s Soccer League Championship title in a match witnessed by a⁤ crowd of 18,000 fans. While Gotham ⁢FC secured the championship, the⁢ City of San Jose also ​emerged ​a ‍winner, experiencing a significant economic boost from‍ the influx of visitors.

San ​Jose Mayor Matt Mahan highlighted⁢ the⁣ positive economic impact of the event. “There’s an economic impact of‌ many here flying into San jose, staying at our hotels, going to our restaurants, especially crucial for local ​small‍ business owners,” Mahan stated. He emphasized that hosting the NWSL Championship is a precursor ⁢to a busy seven months ​for the city, ​which will also⁣ host the Super Bowl, March⁢ Madness,‍ a World Cup event, and a national tennis championship following the World Cup.
