Local Ambassador Finds Unexpected Passion in Cycling
DAINFERN, SOUTH AFRICA – A Sunday morning ride has become a weekly ritual for one local resident, who recently discovered a deep enthusiasm for cycling after partnering with Cycle Lab as an ambassador. What began as a casual activity has evolved into a dedicated pursuit, culminating in a 50km ride completed by 9:00 AM this past sunday.
The ambassador, who expressed surprise at their own transformation, shared that the experience has been far more rewarding than initially anticipated. “I used to cycle. It was okay,” they admitted, “But I’ve really found my groove now. And I properly love my Orbea.”
The newfound passion is fueled by a combination of physical benefits – a recent ride burned approximately 1,500 calories – and the social and scenic aspects of the sport. A local cycling club based in Dainfern meets two to three times a week, providing a regular prospect for group rides and camaraderie. The ambassador also cycles with friends, exploring new routes and enjoying the outdoors.
Prioritizing safety, the group focuses on off-road cycling, utilizing the numerous trails, sand roads, and cycling parks in the area. A recent ride took them to Kyalami, where they encountered fellow outdoor enthusiasts – horseback riders, runners, and dog walkers – all contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. The ambassador recounted a especially encouraging moment during a challenging uphill climb, when a passerby shouted, “keep going, you got this!”
Beyond the physical exertion and social connections, cycling offers a valuable escape from the digital world. “It also means that I’m off my phone and away from my socials for a whole 2 and a half hours,” they noted. And with a playful tone, they added, “1,500 calories burnt means I can have 10 mimosas with no guilt.”
The ambassador concluded with a cheerful message, declaring it a ”Sunday Funday” and wishing their friends a “goodie” day.
